Heavy Snow Leads to Messy Commute

The snowstorm was bad and could have been worse, but hazardous driving conditions could persist even as the snowfall tapers off.

Most areas of the Stateline received the lower end of the 6-10 inches of snow forecast from the overnight storm, in part because the storm swept through the area quickly, with most areas reporting snowfall ending by 8am.

Calm conditions allowed plow trucks in more urban areas to clear it fast and effectively.  As of 8:30am, most streets in and around the Rockford area were plowed although still snow covered.

Rural roads were reported to be in worse shape, but a surprisingly low number of crashes and slide offs were reported across Northern Illinois.

The First Warn Weather Team however is still urging people to drive with caution through the day as wind gusts hit the area, causing some blowing and drifting snow, especially on more rural roads.
