Join WTVO-TV Eyewitness News and Nexstar Broadcasting, in conjunction with Disney-ABC Television Group and the American Red Cross, to help those ravaged by the effects of Hurricane Harvey.
Thursday will be a “Day of Giving” for Hurricane Harvey relief. While many have the urge to donate supplies, the truth is that there is no infrastructure right now to handle the influx of supplies and bottled water. What relief organizations really need right now is cash to deal with the immediate needs of hurricane survivors.
Thousands of people have been forced to leave their flooded homes, losing everything they own – and the storm isn’t over yet.
It is anticipated that many more families will be impacted as rain continues to fall and flooding persists.
The area of Texas that’s underwater is comparable to the distance between New York and Boston. Tropical Storm Harvey will continue to devastate this large geography for the next several days, delivering as much as another 30 inches of rain. Significant flooding and tornadoes are predicted.
Water rescues are still occurring. Numerous hospitals and nursing facilities are evacuating patients and residents. All public transportation is at a halt. Schools and airports are closed and hundreds of thousands of people are still without power.
Here is how you can help by donating to the American Red Cross Harvey Relief Fund.
Text the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation through the Red Cross. To donate online, go here: https://www.redcross.org/donate/cm/nexstar-pub
If you prefer to do so by phone, call 1-855-999-GIVE.
Disney’s last “Day of Giving” in 2012 raised more than $18 million to aid local communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
Thank you for your willingness to help fellow Americans in need.
