One of the biggest names in chocolate turned down a buy-out offer from a company with Rockford area ties.

Mondelez International made a $23 billion bid to buy Hershey.  But, the chocolate company rejected it and said its board has no interest in further discussing the matter with Mondelez.

Mondelez said it’s prepared to go to great lengths to acquire Hershey.  It would unite two of the world’s best known candy makers.

Mondelez has a gum plant on Forest Hills Road in Loves Park.
