Hundreds turn out for 5K Jaimie Cox Memorial Run

News

About 800 people lined up Saturday morning to participate in a 5K run in honor of slain Rockford Police Offcier Jaimie Cox.

The event took place at Roscoe Middle School, with a route that wound along the historic Stone Bridge Trail to Kinnikinnick Creek.

The Cox family had previously gotten together and brainstormed ways to fundraise, in honor of Cox’s service, and decided upon holding a 5K marathon.

The family says this was the best way to remember Jaimie.

“We decided a 5K would be a good event,” said Adam Cox. “Jaimie was a big runner, big outdoorsman, so just a nature-based 5K, to honor Jaimie, represents who he was.”

The proceeds will help fund the Jaimie Cox Memorial Scholarship for the next 15 years.
