The Illinois Attorney General appeals a federal judge’s ruling to scale back on same day voter registration.
Lisa Madigan filed it Tuesday night. She hopes to reverse a ruling that bars election day voter registration at polling places in counties with at least 100,000 residents. Winnebago County would be affected.
Earlier this week, a federal judge said the law was unconstitutional since it discriminated against voters in smaller counties. Republican opponents weren’t happy because it boosted democrat numbers in the heavily populated Cook County, where Chicago is located.
