The Illinois Senate has approved a measure allowing automatic voter registration in Illinois.

Under the proposal, Illinois residents would automatically be registered to vote when they renew their driver’s license or state ID.  Supporters say it’ll improve access and update voter files before November.  But, opponents worry about potential voter fraud.

The legislation will now head to the House.
