Illinois Adds New Unemployment Benefit Requirement

The state adds a new requirement for those applying for unemployment.

Beginning next week, applicants will have to upload a resume to before they can collect any money from the state.  About 60% of unemployment insurance claims are filed without completed employment options.  The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) says it hopes the mandate will link people to about 200,000 job openings.

“We feel this is going to help us help them much more and see what kind of skills they have, what kind of work history they have, will we be able to help link them to the employers that are hiring” said IDES Director Jeff Mays.

When you claim unemployment, you have up to 26 weeks to receive benefits.  The department’s goal is to cut that number in half or more.
