SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois Gov. J.B. Prizker unveiled a bill to strengthen “Scott’s Law” on Tuesday.

Pritzker joined lawmakers to announced legislation which hopes to prevent tragic deaths of emergency responders and highway workers.

The two-part law proposes raising fines for violators of “Scott’s Law” — the “move over” law — and increasing the criminal penalty to a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail.

The bill also includes the creation of the “Move Over Task Force,” dedicated to studying the violations.

The task force includes several city and state leaders, like the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Transportation.
