April is “National Donate Life Month” and Illinois celebrities of all ages are taking time to urge residents to register to become organ donors.

Secretary of State Jesse White, along with members of the Chicago White Sox, joined together Friday to encourage people to become organ and tissue donors.

White says more than 6.7 million people have signed up so far.

Sofia Sanchez, who’s story went viral after she was visited by musician Drake while awaiting a heart transplant, was also on hand.

Sanchez used her experience to stress the importance of donating.

“Life goes on, and I’m just so happy that I’m here today, and that it’s really important to be organ donors, becuase one day, I’ll need another heart or any other organs, like maybe all of you will need an organ one day,” she said.

White says 4,700 people are on the organ waiting list each year, and about 300 people die while waiting for a transplant.
