Illinois Gubernatorial Candidate Visits Stateline

Senator Daniel Biss (D-17th District) stopped in South Beloit on Sunday for a meet-and-greet event. The Senator fielded questions and heard concerns from voters in the Stateline area.

“I think we have an option now,” said Sen. Biss. “Do we want to have an election or do we want to have an auction?”

The gubernatorial candidate referenced the deep pockets of his billionaire opponents, namely J.B. Pritzker and Chris Kennedy.  Kennedy is a member of one of the most notable political families.

Sen. Biss says he’s ready to confront the issue of money in politics in Illinois.

“The Madigan/Pritzker alliance is a very powerful alliance. I get it,” said Sen. Biss. “Theres a billionaire and the most powerful machine politician in Illinois, working together. I don’t think that’s what people want right now. I think people want a government for the rest of us. That’s what I’m fighting for.”

The event was sponsored by RoRoSoBo-Blue, a group formed to bring together progressive-minded people from across the Stateline area. Bill Becker with RoRoSoBo-Blue says they wanted to showcase the senator’s platform for the 2018 November election.

“We wanted to bring in Sen. Daniel Biss here to bring a little bit more focus on him, so that other people can understand his ideas,” said Becker. “I believe when people see those ideas, you go with him.”

The people attending the meet-and-greet Sunday afternoon were able to hear Biss’ stances on the issues.  Some supporters, like Art Bardsley, say they believe he’s more down to earth than his opponents.

“The people got to hear him. I think he’s a real candidate for the people,” said Bardsley.  “A people’s person.”

The other two gubernatorial candidates, JB Pritzker and Chris Kennedy have also made stops in the Stateline.
