Illinois’ backlog of overdue bills is higher than previously reported.
State Comptroller Leslie Munger said the state could owe $10 billion by the end of June. Munger says Illinois owes $7.6 billion to court-ordered private service providers. But, there’s another $1.3 billion owed to vendors who signed contracts with the state.
Illinois can’t pay any of it back until the budget crisis is resolved, which is now in its ninth month.
