Illinois lawmakers walk out of capitol in solidarity with students statewide

Illinois lawmakers walkout

Illinois lawmakers walked out of the capitol this morning to support students across the state on National Walk Out day.

A bipartisan group of senators marched out of the statehouse and gathered in front of the historic Abraham Lincoln statue at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

They spent seventeen minutes honoring each of the 17 victims who died in the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last month.

Senator Melinda Bush says lawmakers have been inspired by the students who are adding their voices to the national debate over gun safety.
