Illinois Ranks High in Home Burglaries According to State Farm Insurance

Illinois based insurer State Farm has some good news and bad news when it comes to home burglaries as many travel away from home this holiday season.

The good news is that the insurers’ home burglary claims are dropping significantly, but the bad news is that Illinois ranks high when it comes to home burglaries.  They add that December is the number one month for home burglaries.

Illinois ranks fourth in home burglary claims with 5517 in 2015, ranking it behind California, Texas and Georgia.  The average cost of a crime-related claim at State Farm is $2,789

However, national theft claims nationwide have been dropping significantly for years.  Here’s an average of over the past five years according to State Farm.

  • 2011: 12,440 claims/month
  • 2012: 11,860 claims/month
  • 2013: 10,520 claims/month
  • 2014: 8,380 claims/month
  • 2015: 7,488 claims/month
