CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — The Illinois State Police have charged a Chicago man with Attempted Murder for almost hitting a Trooper with his vehicle. And it doesn’t stop there.

Police say on May 22nd at 10:22 a.m., a trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the I-290 eastbound ramp when he was almost hit by a car driven by Steven Gouveia.

Police say the trooper ordered the driver to pull over and the driver attempted to flee. According to police, Gouveia struggled with the trooper, and carried the trooper a short distance before the trooper was able to put the vehicle in park and arrest Gouveia.

The trooper, a 12 year veteran of the force, was treated for non-life threatening injuries at an area hospital.

Gouveia was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, and Misdemeanor Possession of Cannabis.
