The state’s unemployment rate went up slightly for January.

The Illinois Dept. of Employment Security reported Thursday the rate is now 6.3%, that’s 0.2% higher than December.

“We need to create a business climate that promotes and job creation in order to regain the thousands of jobs lost in the recession and put Illinois on the path of full economic recovery,” said IL Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Jim Schultz.

Still, the total number of nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 1,500.
