(CNN) — The President of Mexico hopes the new immigration plan will “avoid confrontation” with the United States.
Friday, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador gave details on his country’s new plan to limit the number of migrants traveling through Mexico towards the US.
Officials say the newly-formed national guard will be deployed to Mexico’s southern border by Tuesday.
Mexico’s national immigration institute will hire more than 800 new staffers to help process migrants moving through the country faster.
The move comes after the US and Mexico came to an agreement on immigration last week.
President Trump had planned to implement tariffs on Mexican goods if an agreement was not reached.
