Janesville Man Shoots Car During Argument, Prompts Standoff with Police

A domestic violence related incident leads to a standoff with a Janesville SWAT team, ending in the arrest of a 76-year-old man.

Police were dispatched to the 200 block of W. Ridge Road in Janesville around 9 p.m. Monday night for reports of shots fired. When they got there, they learned that a man, identified as Alan Banner, 76, of Janesville, had shot the tire of a vehicle owned by a man he was having an argument with.

After the shooting, Banner went inside a nearby residence. Police attempted to get him to exit the house, but he refused. A SWAT team was brought in in at attempt to resolve the situation peacefully. They eventually succeeded, and Banner gave himself up.

He is now charged with disorderly conduct and reckless endangering safety.

No one was hurt.
