UPDATE (11/24/15): Pedestrian portion of bridge will remain closed due to further deterioration.
“To err on the side of caution, especially with heavier traffic expected over the weekend, the pedestrian bridge will remain closed,” said Rockford Park District Executive Director Tim Dimke.
Pedestrian traffic will be allowed on the south lane of the Jefferson Street Bridge for one day only, on Saturday, November 28th.

The Jefferson Street Bridge will reopen to vehicles starting Wednesday.
The bridge over the Rock River has been closed to traffic since late August. Construction crews will return in Spring 2016 to complete additional repairs, the bridge will be closed again to all traffic at that time.
Lower Jefferson Street between Madison and Water will remain closed until the project is fully completed.
