“Let your freak flag fly” this Summer at Starlight Theatre

News

“Let your freak flag fly!” at the latest production to hit the Starlight Theatre stage!

Rock Valley College Starlight Theatre’s cast and crew will take on their rendition of “Shrek, the Musical!” starting Wednesday, June 6th through Saturday, June 9th.

The musical is based on the Oscar-winning, Dreamworks animation film. Shrek is a green ogre who finds himself as an unlikely hero on a life-changing adventure. “Shrek, the Musical” has jokes, singing, and dancing, but gets to the heart of what true beauty means.

“I think a great message from the show is that beautiful isn’t always pretty, ” explained Laura Paruzynski who plays the role of Fiona. “So at the end, Fiona comes out as an ogre and she wishes that she was beautiful, that’s what she was hoping to get from her true love’s kiss, but Shrek tells her that you don’t have to be pretty to be beautiful.”

The performances will be at 8 o’clock each night from June 6th through June 9th, with an additional show at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets start at $17.50 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Click here for a link on how to get tickets.

The will be a second round of performances of “Shrek, the Musical” from July 7th through July 14th.
