Rockford and Winnebago County leaders announced that 135 acres of park land at Levings Lake will begin phase two of its renovations.
Those upgrades include expanding Rock West into Wake Park, updates to the shelter and beach house, new grills, a playground, and construct a concert stage. Park District leaders will also create wetlands and floating islands at the lake, which they say it’ll make the area a hot spot for fishermen. These renovations are part of an effort to improve Rockford’s southwest side.
Rockford Park District Assistant Executive Director Jay Sandine says Levings Lake is the right canvas to start and end that effort. “I heard I never knew how beautiful this park was,” he said. Oh my gosh, this food is the best food I’ve ever had. This entertainment it was just beautiful. I sat back and watched it and we saw unity happening we saw relationships forming… We saw Rockford and it was absolutely beautiful.”.
The motto that park officials want to implement is ‘Meet Me at the Park.’ The Wake Park expansion is set to be completed by July.
