Dramatic video captures the moment when twelve people, recognized for their heroism on Wednesday by the Illinois State Police, saved a woman from drowning after her car flipped into a retention pond off I-90.

Police say that on August 3rd around 3:18 p.m., a Libertyville woman was traveling on I-90 when she lost control of her vehicle on the Route 47 exit ramp and became submerged in a retention pond.

A group of people stopped to take action and save her life.

Some called 911 while others entered the water, pulled her out of the car, and performed CPR, reviving the victim prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

“The Illinois State Police would like to recognize these citizens for their quick thinking, bravery, and lifesaving actions,” stated Director Leo P. Schmitz. “There is no greater reward than saving the life of another human being. They were all heroes that day,” concluded Director Schmitz.
