Local kids use their culinary skills to raise money for charity

News

A group of local children used their culinary skills to raise money for charity at an annual bake sale at the Ryan Jury Child Development Learning Center summer camp on Friday.

From marshmallow pots to watermelon Rice Krispies, it was a sweet and tasty way to help those in need.

The kids chose which non-profit to donate to, and this year they chose Gigi’s Playhouse.

Organizers say the fundraiser also serves as an important life lesson for them.

“This gives them an opportunity to look out at the world beyond them and see people who may have different lifestyles, or may be different from them,” said organizer Debbie King. “It gives them a chance to meet the needs of somebody who’s a little needier than they are.”

Gigi’s serves children and adults with Down Syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes developmental delays.
