ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A second Rockford cannabis dispensary has received a license to sell recreational marijuana starting January 1st, 2020.
MedMar, at 2696 McFarland Road, was granted one of six “same site” licenses by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
In total, there are 11 “same site” licenses in total throughout Illinois.
Mapleglen Care Center was the first Rockford dispensary to receive approval from the State of Illinois to operate a Recreational Cannabis Dispensary.
Mapleglen is located at 4777 Stenstrom Road in Rockford, Illinois.
Dispensaries in Champaign, Chicago, Buffalo Grove and Elmwood Park also received licenses this week.
Starting January 1, 2020, the law permits Illinois residents who are at least 21 years old to legally possess up to 30 grams of cannabis flower and up to 5 grams of cannabis concentrate. Registered patients in the medical cannabis pilot program may possess more than 30 grams of cannabis if it is grown and secured in their residence under certain conditions.
Illinois is the 11th state to allow the sale of recreational marijuana.
Back in June, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed the bill into law allowing adults to possess up to 30 grams of marijuana.
