ROCKFORD (WTVO) – Parishioners broke out their Kelly green in August to celebrate a big mile stone at St. Patrick’s church.
The catholic church hit the 100 year old mark, and parishioners came together to celebrate. The festivities started with a mass, and moved to a reception for a St. Pat’s party in August.
The church used to have a school along with it but it has since closed. The church has come close to a similar fate but parishioners credit the church’s priests over the years for keeping the church open by creating an atmosphere that welcomes all.
“We’re still a community and anytime anyone comes to St. Pat’s we welcome them. Whether they’re only English speaking or only Spanish speaking we welcome everyone and that’s I think that’s what stands out.”, life long parishioner Lorena Moctezuma said.
St. Patrick’s is one of a few churches in the Rockford area to reach their 100 year anniversary.
