ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Five people were injured in a leak at a Rockford chemical plant on Wednesday, two of whom were hospitalized.
The two patients were reported to be in stable condition on Thursday, according to the Rockford Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to Viking Chemical, 1827 18th Avenue, around 1:23 p.m. and saw a plume of chemicals releasing from the building.

Officials said the incident was turned over to a third-party hazardous chemical cleanup company, but did not reveal the nature of the chemical that was released.
According to its website, Viking Chemical deals with an array of chemicals used in water treatment, industrial applications, pool chemicals, the food industry, household goods, and metal finishing.
The Rockford Fire Department says it remained at the scene for several hours as the incident was contained.
