BELVIDERE (WTVO) – Belvidere’s first responders faced off to see who would come out on top in the Battle of the Badges softball game.
Team fire and team police faced off on Belvidere High School’s softball field where the friendly rivalry fueled the competition. A big play in the 3rd annual softball battle came from Belvidere’s Police Chief when he sent a fly ball out to center, found the hole bringing two cops home.
The game had snacks, a raffle, and tee shirts for the people cheering on their team in the stands.
Belvidere Fire’s Lieutenant Cunningham says while he looks forward for his chance to help the department get a “W”, the game also helps police and fire come together, strengthening their bond.
“We are a team here in town so the fire and police we work great together. We work great together on calls and this just helps build that relationship and camaraderie between the two departments.”, said Belvidere Fire Department Lt. Chad Cunningham.
Belvidere Fire was looking for their first win but police walked away with a victory for the 3rd year in a row.
