ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — According to a new study by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) ranks as the 19th largest cargo airport in the nation.

That’s a growth of nearly 55 percent year-over-year. In 2018, RFD ranked as the 22nd, and 31st in 2015.

In 2018, RFD saw more than 2.1 billion pounds of cargo moving through the airport, over 1.4 billion pounds in 2017.

RFD is home to the second largest UPS hub in North America, and will soon begin additional flights by Amazon Prime and other Amazon carriers.

“We’re excited to see this continued cargo growth at RFD,” said Mike Dunn, RFD Executive Director. “The success of our cargo activity positions our region for additional job opportunities and economic development.”
