A controlled explosion brought down Sunday what remained of a historic bridge that spans the Mississippi from Iowa to Illinois.
It brought down cables and towers on the old I-74 suspension bridge, also known as the “Iowa-Illinois Memorial Bridge.”
A newer, more modern bridge has already gone up next to the old one. The towers on the Illinois side were demolished in June, with the ones on the Iowa side going down Sunday morning.
