ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) – In less than 24-hours Fred VanVleet Fan Fest will kick off, and organizers have revealed what visitors can expect.
The third annual event will celebrate VanVleet’s success on and off the court. There will be activities, like three-point and slam dunk contests, bouncy houses, and food. This weekend, kids K through 12 will get the chance to learn some skills from VanVleet himself during the Fred VanVleet Summer Camp.
Organizers hope the event instills a sense of pride in the city.
“And the support and the feeling of the community throughout. To be part of that and support that, and give what we can give to make it possible for the community, to connect on that, in a very personal level, was a very easy decision for us,” said Chad Anderson from Anderson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, who’s the presenting sponsor of the event.
For VanVleet, he says it’s great to do something that’s never been done in Rockford.
“It’s been a challenge, but it has been a fun challenge, to put together these types of events for the city and kind of do things that have never been done,” said Rockford native and Toronto Raptor Fred VanVleet. “So, putting it together, doing some community outreach, and then to have the sponsors and the other people, the leaders in the community to come out and support has been great.”
Fred VanVleet Fan Fest runs Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the UW Health Sports Factory in downtown Rockford, 305 South Madison Street.
