ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Discovery Center’s “To the Moon” event celebrates the Apollo 11 mission’s 50th anniversary.

Today, kids had the chance to build their own rocket, create their own crater, and learn about moon phases.

“I like the Milky Way and the galaxy, and I like Earth,” said attendee Juliana Henderson. “They told me that the Earth is like your thumbnail (in relation to the solar system).”

Rockford’s Collins Aerospace was also there, as part of its partnership with the Discovery Center to promote STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – in the community.
