DIXON, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested 52-year-old Joel E. Gartman, of Dixon, after a homeowner woke up to find him naked, sitting next to him on the couch after he had allegedly broke in and helped himself to a few drinks from the resident’s fridge.

Dixon Police say they were called to a residence in the 200 block of South Dement Avenue on Thursday, June 6th for the report of an unwanted person in the home.

Police say Gartman broke into the home by tearing a screen and forcing open a window at the rear of the house. Once inside, he unscrewed light bulbs and removed his shoes, before taking three alcoholic beverages from the fridge and drank them while walking through the house.

According to police, when Gartman found one of the residents asleep on the couch, Gartman removed his clothing and sat next to the resident while holding a fire place poker.

When the homeowner awoke and realized what was happening, he ran upstairs to wake the other resident, and then both of them came downstairs to confront Gartman, who was still in the home trying to hide, police say.

Gartman was charged with Residential Burglary, Criminal Trespass to Residence, Criminal Damage to Property, Theft, and 2 counts of Disorderly Conduct.
