ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – A false report of a shooting occurred Friday night in Rockford.
There was a large police presence at Showplace 16, 8301 E State St, for what was ultimately a false report of a shooting, police said.
Officers reportedly responded to the theater at approximately 8: 30 p.m. in regards to multiple calls for a subject with a gun, a shooting and a fight. Officers were advised upon arrival that a fight had occurred between two groups of juveniles, with an adult male being knocked down during the altercation.
As the crowd was rushing around, someone yelled out “gun,” according to the Rockford Police Department. Officers cleared the theater to ensure there were no shooting or fight victims, and assisted in clearing out some of the juveniles from the premises.
There was reportedly no danger to the public, and normal operations have resumed. No arrests have been made at this time.
