MADISON, Wis. (WTVO) — A former Beloit Police Department officer and security guard with the Beloit School District was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for bringing a minor girl across state lines for an illegal sexual relationship.

Beloit Police were notified of the alleged abuse at 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 9th, 2018. Information on the assault had been brought forward by the child’s mother.

Larry Woods, 62, of Beloit, was arrested the same evening, at 8 p.m.

The victim was a 13-year-old female, with whom Woods made repeated sexual assaults.

According to court documents, Woods was a friend of the victim’s family and served as a mentor in her life, gaining their trust.

Prosecutors say Woods had a sexual relationship with her from late 2017 until his arrest in June 2018. He would rent a hotel room in Rockford to engage in sexual activity with her, according to the Wisconsin U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Woods was convicted of repeated sexual assault of the victim in Rock County and was sentenced to 12 years on September 27th, 2019.

His 10 year federal sentence will run concurrently with his state sentence.

In court, Judge James Peterson said Woods’ crime “was truly outrageous.”
