ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Addie and Timothy Ford decided to take their lives in another direction by starting up their own business. They are now the co-founders of Rockford’s only distillery, GrantView Distillery.
Trust was a major component of their success. They both trusted in their abilities and took the risk to completely change their careers from aviation to distilling.
“Anytime you start a business, there’s always risk,” said Addie Ford. “My husband is an avid risk taker. I think he has built his life being a risk taker.”
The idea of bringing a distillery to Rockford sparked after the Fords took a trip to Kentucky. After being exposed to multiple distilleries during their trip, they realized Rockford needed one too.
After countless hours of research and obtaining the right permits, GrantView Distillery was open for business in December 2018.
GrantView Distillery is a specialty farm with 22 acres of land. There are over 300 grapevines and 80 fruit trees on the property, located at 6969 S. Main Street. A lot of the ingredients they use in their products are grown on the land.
They sell their products throughout the Rockford area at retailers and bars. The products they currently sell are their 40 Winks Double Barreled (Barrel Proof), 40 Winks Double barreled (Small Batch) and RFD Vodka.
The company has received a lot of positive feedback from the community. The Fords hope to continue to create beneficial change for Rockford.
“We want to be part of the solution and help Rockford grow,” Addie Ford said.
