Habitat for Humanity, American Legion Boone Post join to build veteran a home

Local News

Boone County, Ill. (WTVO) — Habitat for Humanity held their first women build Saturday which helped put a Marine veteran into a new home.

After hearing the news, the American Legion Boone Post decided to add the Veteran Build Project to their annual fundraiser.

The plan is to break ground for Sergeant Guerrero and his wife mid-August.

All the proceeds from Sunday’s, July 28th, raffle and auction will be used to build the new home.

Kevin Brubach is part of the American Legion Boone Post 77 said that the reaction from Mr. Guerrero’s face is “priceless without a doubt.”

“The look on Mr. Guerrero’s face when he found out this was happening, I just met him for the first time yesterday and the surprise,” Brubach said. “He can’t believe this is happening.”

The money raised that isn’t going towards the Habitat for Humanity project will still be used to help local veterans through the American Legion.
