Haitian school classrooms to receive furniture courtesy of the Belvidere School District

Local News

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — School children in Haiti will have new furniture, thanks to the Belvidere School District.

The district worked with a pair of charities, Food for the Poor and Hope for Haitians, to make the donation.

Students helped load shipping containers with desks, chairs, and tables on Thursday morning.

Organizers say the gift will make and immediate impact.

“They’re sitting on the floor when they’re in school,” said Hope for Haitians outreach coordinator, Dan McGuire. “So, you can’t really keep everything organized and clean, and feel good about yourself. So, it’s going to have a huge impact on them.”

In all, 1,300 pieces of furniture will make their way to Haiti.
