Illinois State Trooper arrested for sex with students at high school

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — 29-year-old Illinois State Police Trooper James Dierkes was arrested Friday on charges of sexual abuse and sexual assault for allegedly having sex with two students at a high school.

According to police, in 2016, prior to becoming an Illinois State Trooper, Dierkes was employed at Vandalia Community High School.

On December 3rd, 2019, two victims told ISP agents that they and Dierkes had inappropriate sexual contact on multiple occasions.

Dierkes was arrested on Friday, December 6th, 2019, and relieved of duty.

He was charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse and Criminal Sexual Assault.

“Illinois State Police Special Agents treated the victim’s allegations as credible and within hours of disclosure initiated an investigation leading to these charges,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. “ISP agents are fiercely protective of brave crime victims and fiercely protective of the integrity of the Illinois State Police so we urge any victims to come forward.”

Dierkes is being held at the Fayette County Jail on $1 million bond.
