Illinois truckers held to high standard as state prepares for marijuana legalization

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Illinois Trucking Association says that although marijuana use will be legal shortly in the state, truck drivers need to be held to a high standard.

Drivers will not be allowed to have any THC in their system.

Leaders say legalization of the drug could put an extra strain on an industry that is already struggling to attract new workers.

“We are concerned this may limit the limited pool that we already have and make it even smaller to get more drivers driving our trucks,” said Matt Hart, executive director of the Illinois Trucking Association.

The trucking industry employs 300,000 people in Illinois.
