Police: Man offers to help Rockford woman change flat tire, robs her

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — UPDATE: Sam Jackson III was arrested for Armed Robbery after robbing a woman on W. State Street who was pulled over to fix a flat tire.

Rockford Police say the 30-year-old woman pulled her vehicle over near W. State and Klines Avenue around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, after suffering a flat tire. She was then approached by a man who offered to help her.

As the two were talking, police say the man pulled out a handgun and robbed the woman of her purse, bag, cash and other items.

The victim was not hurt and was able to call police from the Citgo Gas Station at 2914 W. State Street.

Jackson was arrested on Monday and charged with Armed Robbery, Armed Habitual Criminal, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.

He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
