Man robbed trying to buy a cell phone

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A man thought he was going to be buying a cell phone from someone online but ended up getting robbed.

The 40-year-old told Rockford Police, he met a woman at a house on Rock River Avenue, near Harrison and Kishwaukee, to but the phone.

He says, the woman went around to the back of the house to get the phone when two men with guns walked up to him, robbed him and stole his SUV.

The Rockford Police Department always encourages residents to take extra precautions when completing online transactions in person. Exchange goods only during daylight hours and do so in a public place, or one of the three Rockford Police stations: District 1 (1045 West State Street), District 2 (1410 Broadway), District 3 (557 South New Towne Drive).
