Man’s body found in Genoa confirmed to be missing teen Joseph Maynard

DEKALB, Ill. (WTVO) — The DeKalb County Sheriff confirmed Monday that a man’s body found in a field on Friday is that of missing 19-year-old Joseph Maynard, who was reported missing in March.

Police say they received a call of a body in a field west of the Ellwood Greens subdivision in Genoa at 8:50 a.m. on Friday, June 14th, 2019.

The DeKalb County Coroner identified the remains as belonging to Maynard on Monday.

Maynard was reported missing from his home in the 31000 block of Daniels Drive on March 8th, 2019.

Maynard’s body was recovered about a half-mile from his home.

The autopsy determined that the cause of death was exposure.

Future toxicology tests are pending. Police say there were no visible signs of injury to the body and there is no suspicion of foul play.
