Matthew Summers becomes new Police Chief of Freeport

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Freeport Police look within to find the next person to lead the department.

The city appointed Matthew Summers as the new Police Chief.

Summers was sworn in as Interm Chief in October.

He replaces former Chief Todd Barkalow who retired over the summer.

Summers is a 24-year veteran of the department, having worked in patrol, investigations, community policing and administration.
