Mercyhealth to provide athletic trainers to Rockford University students

Local News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Student athletes at Rockford University will have extra medical resources thanks to a new partnership with Mercyhealth’s Javon Bea Hospital.

Mercyhealth will provide the college with a full time athletic trainer for all student athletes, which goes along with the school’s personal trainer.

Student athletes will also have full access to all the athletic medicine that Mercyhealth provides.

Organizers say this allows the players to be cared for right away after suffering an injury.

Rockford University President, Dr. Eric Fulcomer, said, “Unfortunately, that happens as part of being an athlete. And when that happens, you want them to have immediate access to good, quality care. So, they’ll have access to, of course, our athletic trainers here on campus, either provided by Mercyhealth or provided by Rockford University.”

Rockford University has 280 student athletes.
