Northwest Fire Protection District is looking to hire new crew members

Local News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Northwest Fire Protection District met with potential new recruits Saturday.

The volunteer fire department held an orientation open to anyone interested in or wanting to know more about becoming a firefighter.

The meet and greet is a yearly event with hopes to add new crew members to the team.

The department is looking for anyone with an interest or passion for helping people.

Northwest Fire is a completely volunteer department and the low personnel numbers have them working twice as hard as other departments.

“It’s hard to get volunteers these days with people not realizing that that’s still a thing, so keeping an eye out on your local fire department Facebook page or website can get you information,” said Nick Jupin, Northwest Fire Protection District. “Most fire departments will take people with no experience and give you the training that you need.”

If you want to become a volunteer firefighter, but missed Saturday’s orientation, give the station a call at 815-963-8891.
