BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) — Police have provided an update on the tragic death of a 4-year-old who was hit by a car at a sports complex this weekend.
On Saturday morning, the child, Jack Baumann, was hit by a car around 9:40 a.m. in the 3300 block of Prairie Avenue.
The Beloit Police Department said Baumann was wearing cleats and walking in the parking lot when he slipped and fell, out of the line of sight of the driver.
Police said the driver was not speeding or distracted, and will not be facing any charges.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital, but died.
Tuesday would have been Baumann’s 5th birthday. His friends and the community are planning a special event to honor the little boy. It will start at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Hill Elementary School, 14714 Willowbrook Rd, where his mom is a teacher. The procession will then snake through the neighborhood.
Everyone is encouraged to wear blue, Baumann’s favorite color.
