SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a series of bills Friday aimed at shielding undocumented immigrants in the state from federal immigration laws.

The new bills address everything from map grants for undocumented students, to a ban on detention centers for those who have entered the United States illegally.

Pritzker says the move is necessary to create a firewall against what he calls “attacks on immigrants by the Trump administration.”

Also, local law enforcement agencies in Illinois will no longer be allowed to coordinate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
