Rockford Boys and Girls Club to get new air conditioners thanks to funding from new Illinois budget

Local News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois’ new budget will allow Rockford’s Boys and Girls Club to receive $50,000 as part of the Capital Plan.

The money will be used to help repair and improve the safety of the group’s Blackhawk Facility on North 2nd Street, being used to buy new air conditioners for the building.

Leaders at the Boys and Girls Club say the additional funding allows them to serve more children in the community.

“We keep that club open until 9 o’clock at night, so this will help keep teens in a safe place during the summer hours, which is very, very important when they’re not in school,” said Clifford Stoner, President and CEO. “So, we’re very excited to be able to do this.”

Stoner says funding for the club typically goes toward operating costs.
