ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A downtown Rockford coffee shop is celebrating a decade in business, but the Restoration Cafe isn’t a typical restaurant.
For ten years, the cafe has been helping residents from the Rockford Rescue Mission transition back into the workforce.
Trainees at the cafe learn culinary skills and customer service, and end up waiting on police officers, lawyers, and judges.
“All of the judges and lawyers in our area are supportive of our programs and the people who want to do well,” said Teresa Reeverts. “They don’t want to see people return.”
People who go through the Restoration Cafe’s vocational training earn their Safe Food Handler certificate.
