Rockford man arrested on child abuse charges

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 27-year-old Tyrone Briggs was arrested last week on charges of aggravated battery to a child.

On Friday, July 5th, Rockford Police received a report of suspected child abuse at a home in the 300 block of Underwood Street.

Police say the minor victim suffered multiple injuries.

Briggs, who was in a domestic relationship with the victim’s mother, according to police, was identified as the suspect.

On Tuesday, July 9th, a warrant for Briggs’ arrest was issued, and officers from the Rockford Police Department’s Housing Authority Unit were able to take him into custody at the Underwood apartment.

Briggs was charged with Aggravated Battery to a Child and Domestic Battery.

He was held at the Winnebago County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
