Rockford man takes bullet fragment to the head in shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A 23-year-old man was seriously injured when he was shot outside a large party that happened in Rockford early Sunday morning.

At 2:30 a.m, Rockford Police say they were alerted to the shooting by the city’s ShotSpotter electronic gunshot detection system. When they arrived at the scene, in the area around Green and Waldo Streets, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were already investigating.

Police say that as officers were responding to the call, the victim arrived at a local hospital. The victim had been the passenger in a vehicle near the intersection when he was hit in the head by a bullet fragment.

Investigating officers also located bullet hits on a residence and two vehicles.
